Candidate Spotlight: Floyd Thomas, Jr. HD 7
Floyd M. Thomas, Jr., of El Dorado, is running for House of Representatives, District 7, which includes parts of Union, Calhoun and Ouachita counties. A graduate of El Dorado High School in 1967, Floyd attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he graduated in 1971 with a bachelor of science in Public Administration. Floyd continued his education, earning his law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1974, after which, he returned to El Dorado to practice law. He was president of the Union County Bar Association in 1980 and served as chair of the Arkansas Bar Association Ethics Committee. Floyd is also a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, which is limited to no more than one percent of the lawyers who are licensed to practice in the state. He is a member of First United Methodist Church of El Dorado, where he has served on various boards and committees and taught Sunday school. He is a past president of United Cerebral Palsy of South Arkansas and the Independent Living Center. He has served on the Board of the Desoto Council of the Boy Scouts and as legal counsel to the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a board member of the El Dorado Development Corp. Floyd and is wife Rina have four children and three grandchildren.
